Mlin KATIĆ d.o.o. successfully competed on the public tender for Research and Development Projects (JR RRI NOO) and get the co-financing funds for the implementation of project BioSTRACHew – Environmentally friendly pet toys made of secondary raw materials from food sector. TECOS, Slovenian Tool and Die Development Centre, actively supports this project by the development of suitable biocomposite materials.
The project presents an innovative solution for the use of secondary starch with fibres in new biocomposite materials for the production of bio chewing toys for pets. The target product of this project will be a “Premium set of biocomposite chewing toys for dogs” with the possibility of inserting the treats for mental stimulation and controlled caloric intake.
The BioSTARCHew product line will be based on safe and all-natural materials, without artificial colorants, flavours or other harmful ingredients. The selected biopolymer matrices will be certified for the use in the food industry and all fillers and additives will be 100% natural based, such as starch, fibres, peas hulls, sweeteners and emulsifiers (sorbitol, glycerol). The new products will have a significantly lower environmental impact by following the eco-design principles and a higher added value by using the food industry’s secondary raw materials for its production.
In addition to the lead partner, the project consortium also involves TECOS Slovenian Tool and Die Development Centre, who is responsible for the preparation and development of suitable material composition that meets the required properties of the target products. Added value to the realisation of the BioSTARCHew project will be also contributed by the strategic project partner – Veterina in Trgovina TAČKA, d.o.o., who is entering into this cooperation with its own financial resources for development and innovation.
