As pet lovers, we naturally want the very best for our furry frineds, from the food they eat to the toys they play with. We understand that caring for our dogs like they are part of the family means choosing the products that are not only safe and healthy but also environmentally responsible. That is why we have developed the first sustainable chewing toy for dogs made of plant-based biodegradable plastics and starch residues as by-products of the mill factories, through our innovative project BioSTARCHew, so-funded by the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport, and European Union‘ financial programme NextGenerationEU.
We are now halfway through the project activities and with great pleasure we are announcing the first interactive prototype chewing toy that is not just pet-friendly but planet-friendly too!
BioSTARCHew bones are entirely made of biodegradable plastic and starch, derived as a secondary source of plant proteins production and represents a groundbreaking step towards healthier playtime for your best friend! Our product is free of artificial additives, fragrances and flavour enhancers… contains only plant-based plastic and starch, innovative design approach and loving attitude towards our furry companions. The design of our product differs from its competitors due to extremely well-thought-out inclusions for interactive play, from stimulation by inserting treats to a game of tug.
In the first phase of material testing, we added starch to the polymer blend of different biodegradable polymer materials in various mass proportions, from 10 to 50 percent, and tested the effect directly with the best-ever experts, dogs. We are pleased and excited to announce that they liked the composition and the selection of the preferable was on the highest percentage of starch included. In the next phase, we aim to optimize the blend formulation towards more durable and tough materials, making them suitable for moderate to aggressive chewers.
