MAPgears – Advanced materials, methodologies and technologies for the development of light power transmission components in propulsion technology

The main objective of the project is the development of advanced power transmission components made from polymeric materials (gears), which will meet the requirements of customers and significantly exceed the existing situation.

Project descripton:

The target application of the project is high performance polymer gearboxes for e-bikes’ central drive system. In order to assure market success, it must be better, in respect to weight and capacity, than our competitors.

Knowledge transfer in the fields of advanced materials, material characterization, product design optimization with high geometric accuracy, innovative technologies in tooling and smart material processing and simulations of industrial processes, will allow us to take advantage of synergies between research organizations and industrial project partners, and thus greatly raise both developmental and innovation capabilities of all partners involved. We also plan to increase our exports of high value-added products and enter new markets.

The project ambitions are to:

  • develop and optimize a new polymer material and develop appropriate characterization methods for it,
  • develop a method of product design optimization with high geometric accuracy,
  • and develop innovative technology both in the field of tool manufacturing and with smart sensors, controlled and real-time adaptably controlled material processing.

Continuous communication and continuous exchange of information between all experts involved will, despite the increasing complexity in the phases of implementation, contribute to an integrated approach of diverse interactions, thus facilitating the verification of innovative ideas. At the same time, this will enable speedy validation of the previously described project concepts. This project opens niche opportunities in various fields: materials, product development, simulation design, production technologies and testing.

TECOS's role:

The main role of TECOS within the project is to assist in developing new methods for advanced material production using modern simulation methods to develop tool production which will include the creation of a controlled and real-time adaptably controlled material processing.
